Movie Review: The Crooked House Adaptation 2017

So just yesterday as I was checking on the movie premier dates for Murder on the Orient Express, I was honestly so happy to see that The Crooked House was finally released! (Well, I just noticed its release.)

I've watched the trailer, many many times, just as I did with Murder on the Orient Express.

I suggest you to watch that trailer, like, right now.

And after you're done...

Isn't it beautiful?

I have to admit it got my blood pumping like crazy to see a film adaptation for a Christie book. And other than that, it was good. The trailer was so so good. I felt as if I was going to brace myself for a ride.

So now on to the movie.

I have to admit for most part of it, it's gorgeous. I mean really, I was in love. As a fan, I was addicted. However, when it came to the very last bit (particularly the revelation), you could honestly feel that everything was... sped up. I mean, the movie could do with an extra thirty minutes, in my very honest opinion of course.

So, right now I'm just gonna rate it a solid 7/10. It could've been better, but yeah, it needed more time. I particularly love the chemistry between Charles and Sophia. I even loved Lady Edith, one of the actors that really stood out as her character. In the book, I was drawn to Sophia. But over here, I was drawn to Lady Edith! Also, I'd like to say that I love the pick for Brenda (Christina Hendricks), I do think she played her part real good. I definitely loved her as well, she played the young wife so well that she got me into it as well.

So as I said before, I pretty much almost loved everything, but the time, just the time. God the movie needed a longer duration for a beautiful revelation. The revelation they made was too hasty and completely lacked in emotion. Revelations in Christie's writing, is always the star of the book. They're the best part, and yet, this is the part that lacked. An honest disappointment in that department. However, I'm still sticking with my 7/10!

with love,
Nana
